Crossing music-genres
2022 - now
Until 2024 I was making music on a MacMini (Intel 2014). Performance-wise this was only doable after upgrading the system-drive with an internal SSD. Even then, rendering a song took about 2 Minutes for this machine.
Since 2024 I upgraded to the M2-based version of the MacMini (24GB RAM, 512GB SSD). An holy sh*t, what a necessary upgrade this was!
As for now I'm okay with "Garage Band".
MIDI-Instruments, Samples, Loops, Mixer... a great toolbox for everything needed.
With "Garage Band" it has become easy to learn about MIDI and getting things together. It's a big step towards being independent of given genres, hooks or samples.
First songs I made with this are a bit sloppy (I learned...) - like "Dream on" (2023) - my interpretation of a challenge Alan Walker made to himself by building a song in 100 hours ("Dreamer") or the simple "Melody" (2023).
Garage Band was lacking VOCALS!
So I googled... ;) - And found: "Looperman" - which is a website for Artists either uploading free / commercial loops or: Acapellas! Now we're talking! Ehm... "singing" ;)
As I made my third song on the MAC I discovered those free Acapellas and instantly got a hit: "Junior Peas".
The song "Hypnotized" (2023) had already been ready and I was looking for vocals. Downloaded the Acapella "Look into my eyes" and it fit! Just so.
This happend some more times with Junior Peas and other Artist on Looperman (e.g. Ashensndreams).
I finally found a resource for commercial sounds and Acapellas too called "Ghosthack" and use these from time to time like in the Song "Into the unknown (2024)".
Getting no latency on a Mac is a beautiful experience.
I made some more songs on it, which you can listen to on SoundCloud (see my links to the top right corner).
One of the latest songs I made was a remake of "Loving her" which you will find in the "Amiga"-Section.
The original song is about 30 Years old and I rewrote it on the Mac with the support of my Fender Stratocaster which seems to have the same age like the original song :)
Lingering in my head was the question "How many free resources are available on the internet and which programs are capable of putting this all together?"
DaVinci Resolve is a video editing software which - apart from all Adobe products - has a big community using it.
It is, given the full-featured commercial product - a beast and in the free version still better than most commercial products.
When it comes to free stock Videos I found "MixKit" as a great resource. Now I'm learning and putting it all together in my YouTube-Channel. Music made with free or cheaply available Instruments and Samples, Cover-Photos made from free AI-Websites and Videos made from Stock-footage. There's a lot of support to find on the internet :)
